Many dates can be given approximately only, and traditions in the different branches of the family in regard to the same event do not always correspond. . . .

The design has been to to present but a brief work. To extend the genealogies beyond the fifth (American) generation would make this work quite extensive. The author considers his duty at least partially discharged in furnishing a concise statement of his subject, which may form a trunk upon which branches of individual families may easily be grafted by future genealogists.

Meyer, Henry, "Genealogy of the Meyer Family." Cleveland, Ohio: Lauer & Matill (1890).

My father, Walter Logan Fry, undertook to bring the Fry family genealogy and history up to date in the later days of his life; and he gathered books, records, and information from his brothers and sisters, and other sources, both public and private. As was the case with his ancestor, Henry Meyer, it may have been for his "own use and satisfaction;" but whatever the motivation, he never got it organized in such a way as to advance it to publication.

During the period 1978-80, following his death, I studied the materials and created a pedigree chart; and still have a large, now tattered, chart made from ten, taped together sheets from a legal pad. The project then again became dormant.
